Whenever he can, one of the Garage Door Man’s favorite things to do is help the community. This is especially true when it involves supporting Escondido’s youth in sports or other positive activities. This month he is honored to be donating his services by installing four new metal roll up sheet doors on the snack bar for the Escondido Girls Softball League. This snack bar is located in Kit Carson Park and is used to provide food and drinks to players and families during regular league play and tournaments. It is also used for various other charity and community functions. The Garage Door Man is working side by side with Kathy and Jearl Blackburn who have been coaching EGSL for over thirty years. The Garage Door Man first met Kathy and Jearl when his daughter played softball with EGSL, and they have remained friends ever since.
Kathy and Jearl not only coach, but are also the directors of the snack bar. Sadly, the snack bar has been there far too long without the necessary repairs and improvements to keep it in proper functioning condition. When some wood rot had been discovered in a sink cabinet, Kathy and Jearl decided it was time to bring everything up to code. As a crucial source of income to keep the league operating, keep costs down for players, and even help former players pursue further education with scholarship opportunities the snack bar had to be saved. It was time to make the snack bar safe, efficient and inviting. This meant an entire overhaul of what was there and replacing it with up to date counters, refrigerators, fire safe walls, and of course the outer roll up doors that The Garage Door Man was providing and installing.
Although many other great community members like The Garage Door Man are donating their labor and expertise to the project, Kathy and Jearl do need additional monetary donations for materials to achieve their goal. If you would like to donate, there is a gofundme page set up @ https://www.gofundme.com/Snackbar4EGSL where you can make a tax deductible donation. Lets all help the Blackburns and EGSL make the best experience possible for the Escondido community and all visitors.
