When tragedies like the brushfires in San Diego County occur, the first reaction is to worry about loved ones and hard earned homes, businesses, and possessions. However, once things calm down it is a great time to evaluate the level of safety precautions that you take when there isn’t imminent danger. We want to remind everyone of a few things that you can do to make your garage a safe place.
A garage can house anything from cars, sports equipment, appliances, family heirlooms, and more. With each item in your garage there is a threat of fire involved no matter what the weather conditions are. Here are a few tips that we suggest to keep your risk to a minimum and your piece of mind at a maximum.
Do not overload outlets and unplug your opener whenever there is a power outage to prevent surges
Check and maintain cleanliness and operation of appliances, vents, and hoses
Keep flammable/toxic materials to a minimum and safely contained
Install smoke detectors in the garage and keep them operational
De-Clutter your garage
Have your garage system examined and serviced at least once a year by a professional
